Jakarta (ANTARA) - The State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) Regulator and Danantara are encouraging PT Bio Farma (Persero) to re-strengthen its primary mandate in vaccine research and development, while simultaneously expanding the global market for Indonesian health products.

“In essence, Bio Farma’s mandate is to produce vaccines. However, for a long time, there has been no expansion of product lines, resulting in them acting primarily as a factory for other companies’ vaccines. Now, we want to revert to the original purpose,” stated the Head of the SOE Regulator and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Danantara, Dony Oskra, in an official statement confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Dony stated that Bio Farma’s transformation must be directed towards re-strengthening the company’s capability to create and develop its own products, rather than merely serving as a production site for other companies’ vaccines.

This strengthening of research and development is intended to run in tandem with the expansion of Bio Farma’s products and technology into international markets.

This move is part of Bio Farma’s transformation strategy to bolster research and development capabilities, generate new products, and increase the competitiveness of the Indonesian health industry in the global market.

By refocusing on research and development, Bio Farma is expected to not only become more capable of creating its own health products but also to strengthen national health independence and resilience.

At the same time, the mastery of Indonesian health technology and products can continue to expand, providing a greater contribution to the global health industry.
