Social organizations

From Jayakarta

Almost all newspapers published on Oct. 25 and 26, 1995,
reported the emergence of the National Brotherhood Foundation
(YKPK) and Indonesian National Unity (PNI) group. It seems that
social organizations are flourishing here.

This phenomenon can be taken to mean that Pancasila democracy
is working and is enshrined in the people's hearts and that
society is in search of innovation and progress in all aspects of
life. Although the names of the organizations differ, they have a
common objective and are based on the same principle --
Pancasila.

The board of executives of the National Brotherhood Foundation
is comprised of retired military personnel, religious figures and
ulemas as well as intellectuals of various disciplines. The same
is true with PNI's personnel, who are ex-members of the defunct
Indonesian National Party. The latter is hoping that the People's
Consultative Assembly (MPR) will carry out its function more
effectively, rather than holding a session just once every five
years.

The newly established organizations want to be sure that
Pancasila and the Constitution are implemented consistently and
properly. What will happen next, however, is anybody's guess.
