Social Minister Reveals 46,000 Students to Study in People's Schools This Year
Social Minister (Mensos) Saifullah Yusuf, or Gus Ipul, stated that this year People’s Schools are estimated to accommodate up to 30,000 students. Adding to the number from last year, this means People’s Schools will host 46,000 students this year.
“If last year there were nearly 16,000 students, this year we estimate we can reach around 30,000 students. So, 30,000 students plus nearly 16,000 means this year there will be 46,000 students participating in the learning process at People’s Schools,” said Gus Ipul in the Senen area, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (12/4/2026).
Currently, selection of teachers and educational personnel for the 2026-2027 learning year is being conducted. For the students, there is no registration process, but rather outreach.
“So, we do not open registration for People’s School students, but outreach to families in deciles one and two from DTSEN, the National Single Socio-Economic Data,” he explained.
Because there is no registration, the public is urged not to be deceived if any party asks for money to enter People’s Schools. The selection of prospective students should also be selective, with no bribery process.
“Therefore, the public does not need to, so to speak, make approaches, especially to the point of paying, that is a scam. So there is none of that; just follow the existing process because People’s Schools are for the most incapable families,” he stated.
“I want to convey, there should be no bribery, no favours, no solicitation, no deviations in the People’s School selection process,” he added.
