Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf, or Gus Ipul, directly inspected the readiness of the Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Pelayanan (STIP) Jakarta building, which will be utilised as the location for the pioneering People’s School. This visit focused on identifying the condition of the buildings and formulating recommendations for improvements so that they can soon be used for teaching and learning activities.

During the inspection, Gus Ipul was accompanied by the Director General of Strategic Infrastructure at the Ministry of Public Works, Bisma Staniarto, and the Chairman of STIP, Tri Cahyadi.

Based on the technical team’s presentation, out of a total of 56 buildings in the STIP area, there are four buildings and two sports facilities that can be utilised for the People’s School. These four buildings are located in Taruna E Dormitory, Taruna J Dormitory, Wisma Bahari II, and Nautika, supported by two tennis courts and two football fields.

“For the initial stage, the capacity prepared is around 100 students, supported by two mentors and 18 teaching staff,” said Bisma.

The survey results indicate that the structural condition of the buildings at STIP is still very adequate. No damage was found in the foundations, columns, beams, or roofs. From an architectural perspective, only minor repairs are needed, such as plastering, doors, and windows, as well as replacing some minor components. Meanwhile, for utilities, repairs are focused on replacing non-functional lights.

With this condition, the repairs are projected to be completed in a short time. “We are optimistic that by the end of April, all repairs can be completed and the building ready for use at the beginning of May,” explained Bisma.

In addition to STIP, the government is also preparing other locations, including areas owned by the National Civil Service Agency (LAN), with similar building conditions and capacity for around 100 students.

On that occasion, Gus Ipul emphasised that the People’s School programme continues to show positive developments. Based on implementation at 166 previous sites, students have experienced increases in confidence and abilities, while teachers have become more adaptive in understanding the learning needs of students from various backgrounds.

“Over more than nine months of operation, the results are quite encouraging. Students are starting to develop, and teachers are able to adjust learning methods without relying on academic tests,” said Gus Ipul on Sunday, 19 April 2026.

Following the President’s directives, the government targets an increase in the capacity of the People’s School this year. Previously able to accommodate nearly 16,000 students, it is now targeted that more than 30,000 students can be served through the addition of pioneering schools at various locations.

Specifically for the Jakarta and surrounding areas, 10 pioneering school sites have been designated, including at STIP. Overall, these locations are projected to accommodate more than 1,000 students, with the initial stage around 700 students and an additional 300 students in mid-year.

Gus Ipul emphasised that student selection is based on the National Socio-Economic Single Data (DTSEN), without open registration. Outreach is conducted directly to target families to ensure aid is on target.

“There should be no referrals, no practices that violate regulations. Everything must truly target the families most in need,” he stressed.

He also assured that field obstacles are relatively minimal, only requiring minor repairs to supporting facilities such as beds, toilets, and dining areas. The government is optimistic that all preparations can be completed by the end of April so that teaching and learning activities can begin at the beginning of May.
