Social Minister Gus Ipul Urges Tasikmalaya to Expedite Construction of Permanent People's School

Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) is urging the Tasikmalaya City Government to prepare land so that the construction of a permanent building for the People’s School in the region can be carried out immediately.

Gus Ipul conveyed this during a meeting with Tasikmalaya Mayor Viman Alfarizi and his team at the Ministry of Social Affairs office in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (14/4).

“So, Mr Mayor, please expedite it. It would be our fault if we can’t build a permanent building. You have already accelerated it through the pilot school. We will help accelerate the procurement of the permanent building,” he said in a written statement on Tuesday (14/4/2026).

Furthermore, Gus Ipul explained that there are several requirements that the Tasikmalaya City Government must meet to propose land for the construction of the permanent People’s School building. These include land of at least 7 hectares, with a certificate and clear legal status.

Subsequently, the Ministry of Public Works (PU) will conduct a survey of the proposed land location to determine whether the land is suitable for building the People’s School.

“But the important thing now is to prepare the land. Let’s get moving, Mr Mayor,” he stated.

Gus Ipul noted that the People’s School is a programme initiated by President Prabowo Subianto for children from poor and extremely poor families. This free education with a boarding school or dormitory concept is intended to eradicate poverty in Indonesia.

Gus Ipul stated that President Prabowo is very serious about launching this programme.

“Mr Prabowo is not joking around; the People’s School is no joke. The proof is that he oversees it personally—if invited to a People’s School event, he never misses it,” Gus Ipul revealed.

Currently, in Tasikmalaya, West Java, there is a pilot People’s School, namely the Integrated People’s School (SRT) 41 Tasikmalaya. The school, located in Sambongpari, Mangkubumi Subdistrict, Tasikmalaya City, has been operational since October 2025.

SRT 41 Tasikmalaya has 75 pupils, consisting of 25 primary school students and 50 junior secondary school students.

Also present at the meeting were Deputy Social Minister Agus Jabo Priyono and Secretary General of the Ministry of Social Affairs Robben Rico.
