Social Minister (Mensos) Saifullah Yusuf, affectionately known as Gus Ipul, announced the latest developments regarding the Penerima Bantuan Iuran (PBI) Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional (JKN) program. Of the 11 million participants who were previously deactivated, 869,000 have now been reactivated.

During his visit to Karawang Regency, West Java, on Thursday (February 26), Gus Ipul explained that the reactivation was carried out through various channels, ranging from self-applications to funding transfers.

“Of the approximately 11 million beneficiaries who were previously deactivated, 869,000 have been reactivated through various schemes,” said Gus Ipul, as quoted by Antara on Thursday (February 26).

The details of the reactivation data are as follows:

Gus Ipul highlighted the significant number of participants who have switched to the worker segment (ASN/BUMN) as evidence that previous data collection needs to be improved to ensure that assistance is more targeted.

“This number is quite large and is one indication that previously, the targeting was not entirely accurate,” said the Minister.

However, he acknowledged that there were technical constraints in the data verification process that caused citizens who were actually eligible to be deactivated as well.

“The majority were actually appropriately targeted, but there were still some who experienced errors, and that is what we continue to fix. Therefore, a reactivation mechanism has been provided,” he added.

The Ministry of Social Affairs has set a three-month socialization period regarding this new policy. Gus Ipul encouraged people who are now economically capable to consciously switch to independent membership.

The indicators for determining eligibility will be based on two main things: a statement from the local head (village head, regent, or mayor) and alignment with the National Socio-Economic Data (DTSEN).

“We suggest that those who are now capable switch to the independent segment. However, for those who are not yet capable, they will be reactivated through the PBI JKN,” he said. (Ant/P-4)

The amount of contributions from participants in the National Health Insurance (JKN) program needs to be evaluated to maintain the sustainability of healthcare financing in the face of rising medical costs.

The JKN contributions, which are managed by BPJS Kesehatan, need to be increased every two years to prevent deficits and maintain the sustainability of healthcare services.

A member of Commission IX of the DPR RI, Edy Wuryanto, emphasized that the sustainability of BPJS Kesehatan is important. However, an increase in BPJS Kesehatan contributions does not address the deficit problem.

The Indonesian Consumer Foundation emphasized that the increase in JKN contributions must take into account the public’s ability to pay and encourage the elimination of penalties.

The Head of Public Relations of BPJS Kesehatan, Rizzky Anugerah, responded to the statement by the Minister of Health regarding the increase in JKN participant contributions.

Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf, also known as Gus Ipul, affirmed that hospitals are prohibited from rejecting patients for any reason, including due to the inactive status of their BPJS Kesehatan PBI membership.

Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf, or Gus Ipul, provides an opportunity for reactivation for inactive BPJS Kesehatan PBI JKN participants who suffer from chronic diseases.

Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf, or Gus Ipul, revealed that there are still tens of millions of poor people who have not been reached by the PBI JKN program.

Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf, or Gus Ipul, emphasized that no hospitals or health facilities should refuse to serve patients who are participants in the BPJS PBI segment.

According to Gus Ipul, the People’s School is a miniature of a structured, integrated, and sustainable poverty alleviation program.
