Social Minister Gus Ipul Calls for Life Sentence for Perpetrator of Sexual Abuse at Islamic Boarding School in Pati
The Minister of Social Affairs, Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul), has requested that the perpetrator of sexual abuse at an Islamic boarding school (Ponpes) in Pati receive the harshest possible punishment. The perpetrator, identified as A, 51, is the caretaker and founder of the Dholo Kusumo Ponpes.
This statement was made by Gus Ipul after a working visit to the Sekolah Rakyat Menengah Pertama (SRMP) 12 Pati and a closed-door meeting with the female students who were victims, accompanied by their parents and legal advisors, on Friday (May 15).
In addition to advocating for the maximum enforcement of the law, the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) is committed to implementing comprehensive recovery measures for the victims. Gus Ipul stated that his ministry will work in synergy with the Pati Regency government to prepare a sustainability scheme for their education.
This step is taken to ensure that the trauma experienced by the female students does not interrupt their access to the future. “The government is giving serious attention. We ensure that there is a scheme to ensure that their education continues,” added Gus Ipul.
The Acting Regent of Pati, Risma Ardhi Chandra, revealed that they have moved quickly by forming a special task force to handle this case. Intensive coordination is also being carried out with the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) regarding the relocation of the victims’ learning location.
For the time being, the education of the student victims of the sexual abuse will be carried out at MAN 1 Pati. This step is taken to guarantee the safety and psychological comfort of the children.
“After coordinating with several parties, we are implementing various schemes to provide protection and rehabilitation to the victims of sexual abuse so that they can return to school safely,” said Risma.
This case emerged after the revelation of immoral acts committed by A (51) against a number of his female students at the Ndolo Kusumo Ponpes. Currently, the legal process is ongoing while a joint team focuses on trauma healing for the victims. (H-4)
