Jakarta (ANTARA) - Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf has explained the challenges in constructing People’s Schools in Temanggung and Wonosobo Regencies, Central Java, which are related to land issues.

He stated that the construction of People’s Schools is carried out by the Ministry of Public Works following proposals from the Ministry of Social Affairs, which has coordinated with local governments.

“We know the land is provided by the local government, then an assessment is conducted by the Ministry of Public Works to meet all the established requirements,” said the man familiarly known as Gus Ipul during a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Gus Ipul explained that these requirements encompass various aspects, including environmental impact analysis (AMDAL) and land status that must be declared clean and clear.

He noted that several sites have been designated for construction after thorough research. However, at some locations, including Temanggung and Wonosobo, challenges persist.

In Temanggung, he said, although the land has been declared to meet the requirements, there are still issues with the local community that have not yet reached an agreement with the regency government, so construction has not started.

“Specifically in Temanggung, the land still has a slight issue with the local community, with the local community that has not yet found common ground with the Regent, so the construction is delayed until now,” he said.

Gus Ipul stated that his side will wait for the steps taken by the local government, particularly the regent, in resolving the issue through deliberation with the residents on that land.

“Of course, we will wait for the Regent to deliberate well with the residents who happen to be on the land that has been declared clear and clean,” he said.
