Social Minister Addresses BPJS Kesehatan PBI Membership Termination
BEKASI, KOMPAS.com – Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf has openly discussed the termination of BPJS Kesehatan PBI JKN (National Health Insurance Premium Assistance Recipients) membership.
He admitted that the socialisation of the BPJS Kesehatan PBI JKN membership termination has not been optimal.
“We will improve the mechanism. We appreciate that suggestion (regarding socialisation),” said Saifullah during a visit to a cataract surgery assistance program at Bhakti Husada Hospital, North Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, Wednesday (25/2/2026).
In the future, BPJS Kesehatan PBI JKN participants will be given time to reactivate their membership or raise objections.
“If, after two months, there is no reactivation or no objection, then we will terminate the membership in the following month,” he said.
He emphasised that no citizen should lose hope of receiving treatment simply because of administrative or cost issues.
“We hope that hospitals that have collaborated with BPJS will continue to be able to serve patients who happen to have their membership terminated,” he said.
According to him, the payment scheme can be coordinated between the Ministry of Social Affairs and the hospital.
He said that if the local government does not yet have a budget in the current year, payment can be planned through the budget for the following year.
He emphasised that cross-sector collaboration is key to ensuring that the public continues to receive healthcare services.
“If the hospital is also not willing to act because there is no guarantee, then we will guarantee it. But I can’t pay this year, because the budget must be planned a year in advance,” he said.
Saifullah assured that the termination of millions of BPJS PBI JKN participants is not a reduction in aid allocation.
“But it is being reallocated from recipients who do not meet the criteria to those who do meet the criteria and are in greater need,” he said.
