Social Media Users Highlight East Kalimantan Governor's Collection of Luxury Watches
East Kalimantan Governor Rudy Mas’ud has recently been the subject of public attention. His name has been widely discussed in connection with the procurement of an official vehicle costing IDR 8.5 billion. The procurement of the official vehicle has sparked controversy amid the regional government’s ongoing budget efficiency policies.
Amid this controversy, public attention has once again turned to the collection of luxury watches owned by the Governor of East Kalimantan. The X account @MiskinTV_ shared two photos of Rudy Mas’ud wearing luxury watches at an event.
“This is the Governor of East Kalimantan. He was recently in the news for his IDR 8.5 billion official vehicle. Have these watches been reported in his asset declaration? If asked for clarification, he will probably say: ‘These are fake watches.’ @KPK_RI, please investigate,” read the caption in the post.
The first photo shows Rudy Mas’ud wearing a luxury watch from the Swiss brand Audemars Piguet (AP) series Royal Oak Offshore. The watch is estimated to be worth IDR 690 million. In the second photo, the Governor of East Kalimantan is wearing a Swiss-made Richard Mille series RM-005 Rose Gold watch, which is estimated to be worth IDR 2.5 billion.
The post on the X account has garnered many comments from social media users. Many of them have made sarcastic comments about the Governor of East Kalimantan.
“Maybe the watch was chosen to maintain his dignity,” commented one user.
“What other function does an expensive watch have besides telling the time? A watch worth IDR 50/100 would be enough,” said another.
“Dignity Man,” quipped another user.
East Kalimantan Governor Clarifies Official Vehicle Procurement
Previously, Rudy Mas’ud spoke out about the controversy surrounding the IDR 8.5 billion budget for the purchase of an official vehicle. He explained that he has not yet received the official vehicle. “Regarding the vehicle, the East Kalimantan Provincial Government has not yet provided a vehicle for use in East Kalimantan. So there is no vehicle. What exists today is a private vehicle that is being used. The East Kalimantan Provincial Government vehicle is only available in Jakarta. Why in Jakarta? First, it is to carry out activities that support the activities of the regional head,” he said, as quoted from the Instagram account Lambe Turah, Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
