Social media influencer Woodyrman attacked Bruneian man after voice note challenge

Police revealed that the incident involving social media influencer Mohamad Irman Ali, 33, known as Woodyrman, attacking a Bruneian national in Blok M, South Jakarta, was triggered by a voice note challenge. According to Polda Metro Jaya’s Chief of Public Relations, Budi Hermanto, the altercation began with a misunderstanding between Woodyrman and a witness. The victim attempted to defend the witness, leading to a verbal confrontation between the two.

“This incident started from a misunderstanding between the suspect and a witness. The victim then tried to defend the witness, resulting in an argument between the victim and the suspect,” said Budi Hermanto when contacted by journalists on Thursday, 28 May 2026.

Police confirmed the perpetrator and victim knew each other. The victim had previously sent a voice note challenging him to a fight. When Woodyrman and the victim met at the scene, the situation turned confrontational and escalated into a physical assault.

“Prior to the incident, the victim sent a voice note challenging him to a fight. When the victim and suspect met at the scene, the situation became increasingly confrontational,” he explained.

Budi stated that Woodyrman was under the influence of alcohol during the assault. He struck the victim once with his right hand, which was holding a paper bag containing a drink bottle to the head.

“Based on investigations, the suspect was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. In a state of anger, he delivered a single blow to the victim’s head using his right hand, which was holding a paper bag containing a drink bottle,” he added.

As a result of the assault, the victim fell at the scene. He received medical treatment but later died. The altercation involving two foreign nationals occurred in Blok M, South Jakarta, in the early hours of Wednesday, 6 May. The victim, identified as MHF, 30, died after 10 days in hospital.
