Social Media Era Makes Government More Self-Aware in Improving Services: ORI
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ombudsman (ORI) has reminded that the era of social media requires the government to be increasingly self-aware in order to continuously improve the performance of public services.
During the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Ambon City Government in Jakarta on Monday, ORI Vice Chairman Rahmadi Indra Tektona stated that supervision of public services is not only carried out by official institutions but also by the public. “Public officials must always engage in self-reflection,” Rahmadi said. He expressed hope that the synergy with the Ambon City Government would benefit the citizens of Ambon.
The main task of ORI is to supervise the implementation of public services organised by state and government administrators, both central and regional, including State-Owned Enterprises, State Legal Entities, and private entities that use state or regional budget funds. He stated that the common goal of the agreement is to ensure the community is well served, as the public’s needs for food, clothing, and other essentials are important and are the responsibility of the city government.
On the same occasion, Ambon Mayor Bodewin Watimena appreciated ORI for renewing the cooperation, which had previously been in place for five years. For the city government, the agreement is an important moment to continue improving public services. He acknowledged that there are still many aspects that cannot be implemented well in the effort to optimise public services. “In this regard, ORI can help correct various shortcomings and prevent maladministration,” Bodewin said.
The memorandum of understanding, which is valid for five years, regulates the acceleration of complaint resolution, prevention of maladministration, exchange of information and data, as well as the improvement and development of human resource competencies related to the implementation of public services.
