Social Media Dispute Leads to Fatal Assault in Bekasi, Six Arrested
The Bekasi City Metro Police have uncovered a case of assault and mob violence that led to the death of a teenager, identified by the initials SRR, in the Mustika Jaya area of Bekasi, West Java. The fatal attack stemmed from a dispute on social media.
“The motive that has been revealed so far is a dispute and offence taken that began on social media, which then escalated into joint physical violence against the victim,” said Bekasi City Metro Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Kusumo Wahyu Bintoro, on Saturday (13/6/2026).
The police chief explained that the tragic incident occurred on Thursday (14/5). Police investigated the case by taking witness statements and gathering evidence.
Based on the investigation, six individuals are suspected of being involved in the mob attack on the victim. The apprehended suspects have the initials RA, ANA, RS, MSS, MTA, and TH.
According to the investigation results, the dispute began with interactions on social media. Posts and comments that were perceived as offensive triggered tensions, which eventually led to a physical meeting between the victim and the suspects.
During the meeting, the victim was allegedly subjected to a group assault by the suspects. As a result of the abuse he suffered, the victim sustained serious injuries and ultimately died.
All suspects have now been detained and are undergoing legal proceedings. Because some of the suspects are still minors, investigators are applying the provisions of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP) and handling mechanisms in accordance with the Juvenile Criminal Justice System (SPPA).
The Bekasi City Metro Police affirmed that they will handle the case professionally.
