Social Assistance, Compensation, and Best Services for Train Accident Victims in Bekasi
The government has assured that victims of the train accident involving the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek and the KRL Commuter Line at Bekasi Timur Station will receive assistance. This assurance was conveyed by Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf, or Gus Ipul, during his visit to one of the families of the deceased victims. “Overall, there are 81 injured and 16 deceased. We will conduct assessments for all of them and provide support programmes according to each individual’s needs,” said Gus Ipul after visiting the home of Nuryati (62), a deceased victim from the KA-KRL tragedy, in Utan Panjang, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (30/4/2026). The government, according to Gus Ipul, will not leave the victims’ families alone without accompaniment and support. “In addition to the insurance from Jasa Raharja, from the Ministry of Social Affairs, we will provide assistance in the form of social aid, compensation, and most importantly, empowerment programmes,” explained Gus Ipul. Although compensation is guaranteed by insurance, the Ministry of Social Affairs ensures that the state remains present to provide additional support for the victims’ families. “For compensation to the heirs, there is usually a mechanism through insurance. However, for the victims’ families, God willing, we will provide support based on the assessment results,” said Gus Ipul at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (29/4/2026). “When the President visited earlier, he first instructed that all treated victims receive the best services,” said State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi in his statement on Tuesday. Prasetyo also expressed deep condolences to the victims. He said that Prabowo visited the victims before departing for a working visit out of town on Tuesday (28/4/2026). “He took the time to briefly discuss and hear input from the hospital director regarding the handling of victims and the needs of hospital equipment,” he said. Prabowo also received a report on the incident from Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi and PT KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin, who accompanied him during his visit to Bekasi City General Hospital.
