Social and Economic Recovery for Disaster Victims Accelerated by PRR Task Force
The Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) emphasises that post-disaster management in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra focuses on speeding up the social and economic recovery of affected communities. Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf says the government has prepared various assistance schemes for disaster-affected communities, ranging from the provision of temporary housing to family economic recovery aid. After the emergency period, the government subsequently prepares housing for the refugees, either temporary housing (huntara) or permanent housing (huntap). ‘Next, how the housing for the evacuees is prepared, temporary housing, or then permanent housing,’ Saifullah said when inspecting the temporary housing with the Head of the PRR Post-Disaster Task Force Sumatra Tito Karnavian in Pidie Jaya district, Aceh Province, on Friday, 6 March 2026. According to him, because the disaster’s scale is quite large and spans several provinces, management is not handled by just one agency. ‘Usually those handling it are BNPB. However, because its scale is wide and large, the President through the Minister of Home Affairs as Chair of the Task Force has tasked many agencies to be involved,’ he said. Several ministries and agencies, including state-owned enterprises (BUMN) and the Ministry of Public Works (Kementerian PU), are involved to help build temporary and permanent housing for affected communities. He added that in its implementation there may be differences in facility standards because the government is striving to provide decent housing as quickly as possible for evacuees. ‘Rather than people staying in shelters for too long, it would be better to relocate them to temporary housing as soon as possible. If there are shortcomings in hunts, they can be repaired or adjusted,’ he said. In addition to housing provision, the government is also preparing assistance for families occupying temporary or permanent housing. The assistance consists of household support amounting to Rp3 million for each family, assuming most household equipment belonging to the victims is lost or damaged due to the disaster. The government also provides economic stimulus assistance of Rp5 million per family to help people restart their lives after the disaster. Furthermore, during the stay in temporary housing, the government provides a living allowance (jadup) for purchasing foodstuffs of Rp15 thousand per person per day for three months.
