Social Affairs Ministry accelerates teacher recruitment for 'Sekolah Rakyat'

The Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) of the Republic of Indonesia is accelerating the fulfilment of teacher and educator needs to support the operation of Sekolah Rakyat, which will begin accepting students in the 2026/2027 academic year. Secretary General of the Ministry of Social Affairs Robben Rico stated in Bandung, West Java, on Wednesday that the recruitment process for teachers and educators is ongoing to ensure the human resource requirements at Sekolah Rakyat are met according to the operational schedule. “We are currently in the process of recruiting teachers and educators. Alhamdulillah, we need around 3,300 teachers. Then, educators consisting of guardians and dormitory supervisors number approximately 5,000 people. They can only join later, God willing, on 1 September,” he said. He noted that this need arises as the number of Sekolah Rakyat beginning operations in the new academic year increases. While the recruitment process is underway, Kemensos is preparing a transition scheme to ensure teaching and learning activities continue. Additionally, Kemensos is proposing the acceleration of teacher procurement through the teacher professional education programme (PPG) because the demand for educators is expected to rise with the development of Sekolah Rakyat and Sekolah Garuda in the coming years. Robben said his party will coordinate with the Executive Office of the President (KSP), the National Civil Service Agency (BKN), and the Ministry of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (KemenPAN-RB) so that the teacher recruitment mechanism can proceed more quickly. “We request permission so that the teacher procurement process through PPG can be assisted to be accelerated. Later, we will also ask the Deputy and special staff to communicate and assist us together with BKN and KemenPAN-RB,” he said. To support the new student orientation period (MPLS) and matriculation, the government is preparing 207 guest teachers for MPLS, 2,643 guest teachers for matriculation, and 4,987 guest educators until the permanent teacher and educator recruitment process is completed.
