“Everything will be assessed, and we will provide programme support according to each individual’s needs. Each family’s needs are different,” Saifullah said during a condolence visit to the home of Hj. Nuryati (63), one of the KRL victims, in Kemayoran, Jakarta, on Wednesday.
The fatal incident occurred on Monday (27/4) at 20:55 WIB, involving KA Argo Bromo Anggrek train number 4 on the Gambir-Surabaya Pasar Turi route, which collided with KRL series on the Kampung Bandan-Cikarang route (PLB 5568A) at Bekasi Timur Station, Bekasi.
Based on the latest data, the disaster resulted in 16 deaths and 81 others injured.
Saifullah emphasised that the presence of the state through the Ministry of Social Affairs is a direct directive from the President to provide attention to the victims’ families.
“She had a small shop business that had been supporting the family. We want this disaster not to shake the family’s economy, so we will assist to maintain that business, even upgrade it if necessary,” he said.
Regarding the form of assistance, Saifullah explained that in the initial stage, his side is distributing Social Rehabilitation Assistance (ATENSI) in the form of basic necessities (sembako), cash grants, and psychosocial support as a gesture of government compassion beyond Jasa Raharja insurance benefits.
However, he stressed that the main long-term focus is on economic empowerment programmes so that heirs can continue the economic independence built by the deceased.
“We will provide assistance according to the assessment results. We thank the family for being open about their condition, so we can follow up and link it to government programmes,” said Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf.
