Social Affairs Minister says Kupang SR building 75% complete

Kupang (ANTARA) - Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf, also known as Gus Ipul, said the construction of the permanent Sekolah Rakyat Merah Putih (SRMP) building in Oelnasi Village, Kupang Tengah Subdistrict, Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), has reached 75% completion.

‘We can see the model of the student dormitory that has already been built,’ he said during a working visit to Kupang on Sunday.

He made the statement after inspecting the progress of the SR building construction in Kupang Regency.

He explained that the dormitory includes bunk beds equipped with study desks and lockers for students’ clothing.

The minister said that with the current 75% progress, the building is expected to be operational for the 2026 academic year.

‘We hope classes will commence in July 2026,’ he added.

The permanent building, he stated, will accommodate over 1,000 students. The site also features sports facilities, extracurricular spaces, and laboratories.

There is also a teacher dormitory, library, and other educational support facilities, all intended to support SR’s learning process for vulnerable families.

‘This is President Prabowo’s gift to low-income families, aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty and fostering a golden generation by 2045,’ he added.

Currently, he said, only Kupang Regency in NTT meets the criteria for permanent SR building construction.

‘I am confident the governor will coordinate with other local governments to prepare land for permanent SR buildings in areas without one,’ he added.

Project Manager Agung Wardana noted that construction is now in its final stages.

‘We are now in the finishing phase. We have started brickwork, tiling, and electrical installation,’ he added.
