Social Affairs Minister Inspects Readiness of People's School at LAN
Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf, or Gus Ipul, continued a series of site inspections for preparations to host the People’s School by visiting the premises of the National Institute of Public Administration (LAN) on Sunday, 19 April 2026. This visit forms part of efforts to ensure the readiness of facilities and infrastructure, following an earlier inspection of a location at STIP on the same day.
During the inspection, Gus Ipul was accompanied by LAN Head Muhammad Taufiq, LAN Chief Secretary Andi Taufik, and representatives from the General Bureau, Cooperation, and Public Relations, Muhammad Yusuf Gunawan Idris. Also present was the Director General of Strategic Infrastructure from the Ministry of Public Works, Bisma Staniarto, who provided technical input on infrastructure readiness.
Gus Ipul, along with LAN and Ministry of Public Works officials, examined the existing condition of the buildings, including the division of building blocks such as Blocks A, B, and K, which have different characteristics. Several rooms are currently used for basic training, while others have the potential to be repurposed as learning spaces and dormitories for People’s School students.
From the presentations, the available dormitory capacity is estimated to accommodate around 120 people. However, these facilities still require adjustments as they are deemed not yet optimal in terms of room size and comfort. Supporting facilities such as a dining area capable of serving more than 100 people, sports areas, and open spaces were also part of the evaluation.
Muhammad Taufiq expressed his side’s readiness to support the People’s School programme through the optimisation of existing assets. “This is one of the very strategic locations. In principle, the existing facilities can be utilised and adjusted, including through renovations to meet the needs of the school,” he said.
In the discussions, the need for reorganisation of some areas currently occupied also arose. The approach will prioritise humane solutions, including possible relocations with support for basic needs.
In response, Gus Ipul emphasised the importance of a fair and solution-oriented approach. “If adjustments or relocations are indeed necessary, we ensure they are carried out humanely. This can be with temporary support, both for housing and basic needs, until they are truly ready to be independent,” he said.
He also stressed that the government is not only focused on physical development but also ensures the sustainability of the lives of affected communities. “The principle is that we help each other, finding the best way out so that all parties get a solution,” he added.
Furthermore, synergy with the Ministry of Public Works is key to ensuring infrastructure readiness, including possible renovations or additional constructions to enhance capacity and suitability of facilities. This cross-sectoral collaboration is expected to accelerate the realisation of the People’s School in various regions.
