Social Affairs Minister Ensures Disaster Relief Distribution Follows Prudent Principles
East Aceh, Aceh — Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf has ensured that the distribution of disaster relief funds for flood victims in Aceh Province, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra will prioritise prudent principles to guarantee targeting accuracy.
“What is most important is that we distribute (assistance to disaster victims) carefully in accordance with procedures as everything will be audited,” Saifullah Yusuf told media representatives in East Aceh on Monday.
He explained that disaster relief for victims is carried out through procedures that allow targeting inaccuracies to be minimised. Beneficiary data must be verified and confirmed as accurate before being submitted to the Finance Ministry. Following approval of the submission, the Social Affairs Ministry instructs distribution agencies to begin disbursing assistance.
Saifullah stated that specifically in the Aceh region, assistance is distributed through PT Pos Indonesia for faster access and easier reach for residents. He outlined three distribution methods: direct distribution at PT Pos Indonesia offices in the area, delivery through community groups such as at village level or through homes of agreed community leaders, and home visits by PT Pos Indonesia staff for elderly residents unable to collect assistance directly.
Saifullah added that the value of government financial assistance is substantial, estimated at 60 to 70 million rupiah per household. Therefore, when assistance is distributed to the correct recipients, residents can utilise it effectively to rebuild their lives following the flood disaster impact.
