Social Affairs Minister and Home Affairs Minister Break Fast Together at Aceh's Baiturrahman Grand Mosque
Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) together with Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian attended a breaking of the fast with thousands of residents on the grounds of the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque, Banda Aceh, on Friday (6 March 2026). The event, organised by the Aceh government, also served as the closing of the Aceh Ramadhan Festival and the commemoration of the Nuzulul Qur’an night. Since the afternoon, the mosque grounds—Aceh’s pride—had been crowded with people joining the Iftar. The Aceh government prepared around 5,000 meals. The occasion was also attended by Aceh Governor Muzakir Manaf, Deputy Governor Fadhlullah, Aceh Police Chief Marzuki Ali Basyah, Aceh High Prosecutor Yudi Triadi, Aceh Secretary M Nasir, as well as ulama, regents and mayors across Aceh. Saifullah said the event was held to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood among the people. ‘A gathering like this can strengthen the relationship between the people and the government,’ Saifullah said in a written statement on Saturday (7 March 2026). Meanwhile, Muzakir Manaf said the tradition of breaking the fast together at the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque on every 17th Ramadan has long been part of Acehnese tradition. ‘Alhamdulillah, the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque has now been certified by the Ministry of Tourism as a national cultural heritage,’ he added. Meanwhile, Tito Karnavian said he is grateful to be able to revisit the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque on this Nuzulul Qur’an commemoration moment. As Chair of the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force, Tito also stated that the central government continues to push for accelerated recovery in Aceh so that residents can return to housing and resume normal activities. ‘This mosque is not just an icon of Aceh, but a national asset of Indonesia. Its designation as a national cultural heritage site shows that the mosque is part of the nation’s cultural heritage,’ Tito concluded. For additional information, after breaking the fast, central and local officials together with the public continued with Maghrib, Isha and Tarawih prayers in congregation at the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque.
