Jakarta, VIVA – The Central Statistics Agency (BPS), through its Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, Ateng Hartono, reported that the realised harvested area for rice in February 2026 is estimated to reach 0.94 million hectares (ha). This figure indicates an increase of 23.62 per cent compared to February 2025, which stood at 0.76 million ha. He explained that this rise in harvested area was accompanied by an increase in rice production, recorded at 5.05 million tonnes of dried milled unhulled rice (GKG) in February 2026. “Or experiencing an increase of 27.41 per cent compared to February 2025,” Ateng said during a teleconference press briefing on Wednesday, 1 April 2026. He also reported that the potential harvested area for rice in March-May 2026 is estimated to reach 3.85 million ha, down by 0.46 million ha or approximately 10.60 per cent lower than the same period the previous year. Ateng estimated that the potential rice production for March-May 2026 would reach 20.68 million tonnes of GKG, or a decline of 11.12 per cent compared to the previous year. “Meanwhile, rice production for March-May 2026 is estimated at 11.91 million tonnes of rice, or a drop of 11.11 per cent,” he stated. On the other hand, Ateng also reported that the realised harvested area for maize in February 2026 reached 0.31 million ha, or a decrease of 7.02 per cent compared to February 2025. “Meanwhile, maize production in February 2026 was recorded at 1.77 million tonnes of dried shelled maize with 14 per cent moisture content (JPK KA 14 per cent), or a decline of 4.91 per cent compared to February 2025,” he said.
