The Military Command of Sriwijaya (Kodam II Sriwijaya) and the South Sumatra Police Department have deployed special task force personnel, including snipers, along the entire Kayuagung-Palembang-Betung (Kapal Betung) toll road to ensure the security of homecoming travellers during Eid 2026.

Maj. Gen. TNI Ujang Darwis, Commander of Kodam II Sriwijaya, stated that this measure was taken to tighten security on the outbound and return homecoming traffic, whilst also anticipating potential criminal activity along this major trans-Sumatran route.

“We are deploying snipers in securing the 2026 homecoming traffic,” said the Commander after inspecting the Kayuagung Toll Road infrastructure alongside South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru and South Sumatra Police Chief Insp. Gen. Pol Sandi Nugroho.

He emphasised that the deployment of fully armed personnel is part of a coordinated TNI-Police operation to provide security assurances to the public.

Sniper placement will focus on high-risk locations far from residential areas and sites identified as having a high risk of stone-throwing incidents and street crime.

South Sumatra Police Chief Insp. Gen. Pol Sandi Nugroho added that the deployment of special task forces, including snipers, is intended to ensure homecoming travellers feel safer and more comfortable this year.

“Any form of security and public order disruption will definitely be dealt with firmly,” said the Police Chief.

The Palembang-Betung toll road is scheduled to open functionally to support smooth homecoming traffic on 13 March 2026. This route serves as a major corridor connecting vehicle movement from the Lampung direction towards Palembang and other Sumatran regions.

As part of the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road network, the readiness of the Kapal Betung toll road plays a crucial role in inter-provincial vehicle mobility in southern Sumatra during the Eid period.

The toll road operator is also implementing a 30 per cent tariff discount for the period from seven days before Eid to seven days after (H-7 to H+7), applied automatically without additional requirements.
