Snipers Deployed by Sriwijaya Military Command and South Sumatra Police on Kapal Betung Toll Road to Secure Lebaran 2026 Mudik Traffic
Palembang — Personnel from special task units, including snipers, have been deployed by Sriwijaya Military Command (Kodam II/Sriwijaya) together with the South Sumatra Regional Police (Polda Sumsel) along the Kayuagung-Palembang-Betung (Kapal Betung) toll road to ensure security for Lebaran 2026 homecoming travellers.
Brigadier General Ujang Darwis, Commander of Kodam II/Sriwijaya, stated that this measure was taken to tighten security during the homecoming and return traffic. The deployment also aims to anticipate potential criminal activities on this major Sumatran corridor.
“We are deploying snipers in securing the 2026 homecoming traffic,” said the Military Commander on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.
He emphasised that the deployment of fully armed personnel is part of a TNI-Police operational synergy to provide security guarantees for the public.
The placement of snipers is focused on vulnerable points located far from residential areas and locations identified as having high risk of stone-throwing incidents and street vigilantism.
South Sumatra Police Chief, Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, added that this effort aims to ensure travellers feel safer and more comfortable this year.
“Any form of security and public order disturbance will certainly be handled firmly by us,” said the Police Chief.
The Palembang-Betung toll road section is scheduled to open functionally on 13 March 2026 to support smooth homecoming traffic flow. This route is a major corridor connecting vehicle movements from Lampung towards Palembang and other Sumatran regions.
As part of the Trans-Sumatera toll road network, the readiness of the Kapal Betung toll road plays a crucial role in inter-provincial vehicle mobility in southern Sumatera during the Lebaran period.
Toll road operators are also applying a 30 per cent tariff discount during the period from seven days before to seven days after Lebaran, which applies automatically without additional requirements.
