SNI Implementation Provides Opportunity for Ceramic Industry to Boost Production
The Indonesian government’s policy of tightening the entry of imported products and strengthening the implementation of the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) is providing a significant opportunity for local businesses, particularly the ceramic industry, to increase production.
“The import restrictions implemented by the government provide a great opportunity for domestic ceramic companies to increase production and marketing,” said Liem May Tjoe, Chief Executive Officer of PT Platinum Ceramics Industry, in Tangerang on Thursday.
He revealed that global conditions had initially affected the growth of the ceramic industry business, even as the government was intensifying the construction of buildings and housing that require ceramics. However, the ongoing restrictions and the strengthening of SNI have given domestic products a greater opportunity compared to foreign products.
He also stated that the government regulation is one of the factors helping the ceramic industry survive and develop amidst various challenges. “We feel the benefits of the policies provided by the government through regulations on the growth of the ceramic business,” said Liem.
At the IndoBuildTech Expo 2026 at ICE BSD Tangerang, Titanium Lamina introduced the Bio Luminance innovation through the Lumen Series, which presents a light effect on the surface veins of sintered stone, earning a MURI award with the title “First Sintered Stone with Bio Luminescence (Glow-in-the-Dark Effect)”.
Edy Suyanto, Chairman of the Indonesian Ceramic Industry Association (ASAKI), added that production in the national ceramic industry shows very good data. In 2025, domestic production increased to 73 percent compared to 2024. ASAKI even projects the figure will rise again to 75 percent by the end of 2026.
He said the supporting factor is the support from the Indonesian Government through policies related to restricting foreign products. “Now domestic companies are increasing their production and innovation in providing for the needs of the community,” he said.
Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), when opening the IndoBuildTech Expo 2026 at ICE BSD, Tangerang, on Wednesday (8/7), appreciated the growing role of the national industry in meeting development needs. While reviewing the exhibition, he saw more and more products made by the nation’s children that have international quality with a continuously increasing Domestic Component Level (TKDN).
“This is a source of pride. Indonesian products are increasingly innovative, of higher quality, and their local content is also getting higher. This shows the national industry has the ability to compete with products from other countries,” he said.
