Snatch thieves at Rasuna Said car-free day face seven years in prison
Two perpetrators who carried out a snatch theft during the car-free day (HBKB) on HR Rasuna Said, South Jakarta, specifically on Jalan Pedurenan Masjid Raya, Karet Kuningan, Setiabudi, face a maximum sentence of seven years in prison. Head of Public Relations for the South Jakarta Metro Police, AKP Joko Adi, confirmed that the suspects are being charged with theft. The incident occurred on Sunday morning when the victim, identified as D, was at the HBKB Rasuna Said with her child. Two men on a motorcycle approached from the front, and the pillion passenger snatched the victim’s mobile phone. After the theft, the victim screamed for help, prompting nearby residents to give chase. One of the suspects brandished a sickle to intimidate the pursuers, but the pillion passenger was eventually apprehended by the public. Police are currently investigating whether the suspects were involved in other early morning snatchings in the Setiabudi area.
