Smuggling Still Rampant in Indonesia, Prabowo Reprimands Bakamla Before DPR-MPR

President Prabowo Subianto reprimanded the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla) during his speech at the Annual Session of the MPR and the Joint Session of the DPR and DPD on Friday (14/8/2026). Bakamla is a non-ministerial government institution tasked with conducting security, safety, and law enforcement patrols in Indonesian waters and maritime jurisdiction. Prabowo questioned Bakamla as to why smuggling is still rampant in Indonesian waters. He challenged the agency to reform itself, stating he did not want to see injustice and misappropriation. On the occasion, Prabowo also requested the Finance Minister to investigate the Customs and Excise Directorate General in connection with these smuggling activities.
