SMRC Records Decline in Public Satisfaction with Prabowo; Gerindra to Use as Evaluation

The Gerindra Party has addressed the latest survey results from SMRC, which indicate a decline in public satisfaction levels regarding the performance of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.

Gerindra Party Spokesperson, Sugiat Santoso, stated that fluctuations in public satisfaction towards the government are a normal occurrence in a democracy. However, the party intends to use these findings for evaluation purposes.

“For the Gerinda Party, surveys are a good evaluative instrument, but they are not the sole determinant of policy direction,” Sugiat told reporters on Friday, 31 July 2026. “Electability figures or public satisfaction levels are dynamic; ups and downs in surveys are common in a democracy,” he added.

He emphasised that the Gerindra Party is not panicking over the survey results, viewing the data instead as constructive input for the government. “We read these figures clearly as an alarm and an honest aspiration from the community that must be responded to with accelerated performance, rather than political anxiety,” he explained.

Furthermore, Sugiat noted that the fluctuations in survey figures are a natural part of the ongoing process of policy transition and restructuring being designed by the government. “When the government is undertaking fundamental improvements, such as budget restructuring, price stabilisation, and the preparation of national-scale programmes, public reaction can indeed be very dynamic,” Sugiat explained.

He stated that the government’s primary focus at present is maintaining the stability of basic commodity prices, creating jobs, and improving the quality of education. “President Prabowo’s administration is committed to resolving the nation’s fundamental issues, including the continuity of strategic national programmes such as the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) and economic restructuring,” he said.

The party remains optimistic that public satisfaction will rise again as more government programmes and policies begin to be felt by the community.

It is noted that in the survey conducted between 5–19 July 2026, SMRC recorded that the level of public satisfaction with Prabowo’s performance has experienced a decline compared to the previous year. During that period, the public satisfaction level towards Prabowo stood at 51.1 per cent, a significant drop from 81.2 per cent recorded in November 2025.
