Timika - SMP Negeri Tsinga in the mountainous Tsinga village, Tembagapura District, Mimika Regency, Central Papua requires library facilities to support the student learning process.

The headmaster of SMP Negeri Tsinga, Beni Wandagau, said in Timika on Monday that to support the learning process and enhance students’ reading ability, the school hopes for the construction of a library building.

“We desperately need a library building equipped with books to improve children’s reading quality,” said Beni.

He explained that bringing books in large quantities to the area requires substantial costs because Tsinga village can only be reached via air transport.

“Although there are many books in this city, bringing them to school in large quantities is very difficult due to transportation issues. We hope the government can help us send books,” he said.

Beni noted that SMP Negeri Tsinga currently has only three classrooms serving 33 students.

The school has six teachers, consisting of one civil servant (ASN) and five contract staff (PPPK).

“We still have many facility shortages. There is no office space for the school administration, and there are no toilets at the school either. For communication facilities, we use Starlink provided by the school,” said Beni.

Despite the various deficiencies in teaching and learning facilities, he stated that the students’ enthusiasm for participating in the entire learning programme is very high.

“Teaching and learning activities there run smoothly and normally,” said Beni.

He hopes that the lack of supporting learning facilities at the school will receive attention from authorities.
