Pratikno stated that the high mobility of the public during the 2026 Eid holiday period could be managed effectively thanks to cross-sector synergy and the utilisation of technology in traffic management.

“The exodus traffic ran smoothly and safely. Compared to last year, the number of travellers increased, but accident cases actually decreased. This shows that high mobility can still be managed well and is becoming safer,” he said in an official statement in Jakarta on Thursday.

Despite the increase in mobility, safety levels showed significant improvement. Throughout the exodus period, the number of accidents during travel was recorded to have dropped by around 16% compared to 2025, from 31 incidents to 26. This proves that exodus traffic management not only accommodated the increased movement but was also increasingly effective in safeguarding public safety.

The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture conveyed that monitoring data showed the peak exodus on 18 March 2026 (H-3) reached more than 270,315 vehicles, an increase of around 4.6% compared to the previous year. Overall, the total vehicles leaving Jakarta reached around 2.52 million units, or a slight increase of 0.9%.

The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture stated that this achievement was the result of collaborative work across sectors prioritising rapid, data-based coordination.

“All of this is thanks to the cooperation of all parties in planning, anticipating, and responding quickly and accurately, supported by technologies such as widespread CCTV, intelligent transport systems (smart and integrated transportation systems), and data analysis,” he said.

Entering the return phase, the government observed a more positive trend. The peak return was recorded earlier on 24 March 2026 (H+3) with a volume of around 256,338 vehicles, or a decrease of 5.9% compared to the previous year. This pattern indicates that the return flow began to be distributed more evenly and not concentrated at one time.

On the other hand, the total vehicles returning to Jakarta reached around 1.96 million, or an increase of about 6% compared to last year. This increase reflects high public activity but still with a more controlled movement pattern.

Nevertheless, the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture reminded of the importance of maintaining the momentum of return flow management to keep it optimal.

“Now we are entering the return phase. We urge the apparatus to remain focused, continuing hard work and smart, data-based efforts,” he emphasised.

The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture also advised the public to schedule their return trips earlier to avoid density on peak return dates.

“We urge the public not to wait for the return on 28 and 29 March. Start the return as soon as possible; from today, 25 March, you can already return. Also take advantage of the toll discount on 26 and 27 March for a smoother and more comfortable journey,” he said.

The government is optimistic that with strong collaboration between the apparatus and the public, the 2026 Eid return can proceed more evenly, safely, and controllably.

“Thank you to all ranks of the TNI, Police, Ministry of Transportation, and state-owned enterprises that have worked hard. While the public is travelling home, the officers continue to carry out their duties to serve. We extend our greatest thanks,” said Pratikno.
