Smoke-free zone regulations implemented in several museums
Smoke-free zone regulations have been implemented in several museums under the auspices of the Museum and Cultural Heritage Agency (MCB) within the Ministry of Culture.
Indira Estiyanti Nurjadin, Head of the Museum and Cultural Heritage Agency, informed ANTARA in Jakarta on Wednesday that these rules are now in effect at the Basoeki Abdullah Museum, the National Awakening Museum, the Youth Pledge Museum, the Museum of the Formulation of the Proclamation Text, the Indonesian Batik Museum, and the Presidential Museum - Balai Kirti.
She noted that the managers of the Sangiran Early Man Museum, the Borobudur Conservation Office, Borobudur Temple, Mendut Temple, and Pawon Temple had previously implemented similar smoke-free regulations.
According to Nurjadin, the enforcement of these rules is part of an effort to provide healthy public spaces. “Museums and cultural heritage sites are spaces for learning, reflection, and community interaction. Therefore, a healthy and comfortable environment is an essential prerequisite for educational and preservation functions to operate optimally,” she explained.
As part of the 2024 World No Tobacco Day commemorations, the MCB organised training for museum managers regarding the implementation of smoke-free zone regulations. This training was conducted as part of an effort to provide a healthy, safe, and comfortable environment across all MCB work units.
