A video circulating on social media shows plumes of smoke emerging from the top of a KRL (Commuter Line) train at Cikarang Station, Bekasi Regency. The incident occurred on Commuter Line PLB No. 6031A, operating the Cikarang-Kampung Banda route on track 4 of Cikarang Station, this afternoon.

KAI Commuter Public Relations Manager, Leza Arlan, stated that the incident took place at 12:02 WIB on Tuesday (29/09/2026). According to Leza, the smoke was triggered by debris lodged in the pantograph.

“After an inspection by the relevant technical officers on-site, the technical team found debris near the train’s pantograph, which caused friction and smoke,” Leza said in a statement.

Leza noted that officers immediately conducted inspections and took action upon receiving reports of the smoke. The handling was carried out in accordance with safety procedures.

As a precautionary measure to prioritise safety, officers lowered one pantograph unit on the sixth carriage. Following the inspection, the train set was declared safe at 12:25 WIB.

“Officers moved quickly to coordinate and handle the situation according to safety procedures,” he added.

KAI Commuter subsequently diverted passengers to Commuter Line PLB No. 5543C, located on track 1 of Cikarang Station. This step was taken to ensure that passengers’ journeys could continue.

Due to the incident, the KRL experienced a delay of 27 minutes. “We apologise for this travel delay,” said Leza.

KAI Commuter has urged the public to help maintain cleanliness around the railway tracks. Members of the public are requested not to litter, as it has the potential to endanger train operations.
