Terminal 2 of Soekarrno-Hatta International Airport was recently enveloped in plumes of smoke. The smoke is suspected to have originated from a ground handling operational vehicle that experienced a technical malfunction in the Terminal 2D baggage makeup area.

The smoke was captured in a 12-second video that went viral on social media, which also featured the sound of warning sirens. Yudistiawan, the Assistant Deputy of Communication & Legal at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, stated that upon receiving the report, the management immediately initiated handling procedures in accordance with established protocols.

The Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) unit, along with technical and operational teams, moved immediately to the location to secure the area, perform initial mitigation, and evacuate the malfunctioning vehicle to an open area to accelerate the smoke dissipation process.

“The source of the disturbance was successfully managed, and the affected area was normalised within approximately 5 to 10 minutes after the report was received,” said Yudistiawan on Saturday (6/6). “The smoke plumes were resolved in a short period, and all affected areas have returned to normal.”

Yudistiawan further explained that the airport has implemented air circulation adjustments, area sweeps, and provided information to passengers to ensure the terminal remains safe and comfortable. “We also apologise for any inconvenience caused to passengers. The safety, security, and comfort of our users remain our top priority,” he clarified.

According to Yudistiawan, flight operations and passenger services at Terminal 2 continue to run safely, orderly, and under control. The affected area returned to normal following the intervention of field officers.

Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is currently coordinating with the ground handling provider to conduct a further evaluation of the vehicle involved in the technical malfunction. The airport remains committed to ensuring all operational aspects adhere to safety and security standards to provide the best service to all passengers.
