Smoke clouds Singaporean skies

SINGAPORE: Singapore experienced hazy skies on Thursday due to
smoke drifting from neighboring Malaysia and Indonesia, the
environment agency said.

Bush fires in parts of Singapore following a long dry spell in
the region have also contributed to the hazy conditions, the
National Environment Agency (NEA) said in a statement.

It expects the hazy conditions to remain over the next few
days but air quality is not likely to deteriorate to unhealthy
levels, the statement said.

The Pollution Standard Index (PSI) reading at 10 a.m. Thursday
stood at 95, close to the key index of 100, above which the air
is classified as unhealthy. The reading was lower later in the
day.

The haziness is expected to persist from time to time over the
next few days as the wind conditions are light and not able to
fully disperse the smoke haze particles, the NEA said.

"The air quality is however, not expected to go into the
unhealthy range," it said. -- AFP
