Smoke at Soekarno-Hatta Airport Terminal 2 Does Not Affect Operations
PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports) at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, has stated that flight activities were not disrupted or hindered by an incident involving smoke at Terminal 2.
“The plume of smoke was successfully managed in a short period, and all affected areas have returned to normal,” said Yudistraiwana, Assistant Deputy of Communication & Legal at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, in Tangerang on Saturday. He noted that thanks to the rapid response from airport personnel, the situation in the affected area of Terminal 2 was brought under control quickly, allowing terminal activities to resume normal operations.
In addition to the terminal returning to normal, the management ensured that flight operations and passenger services continued to run safely, orderly, and under control. “We also apologise for any inconvenience caused to our passengers. The safety, security, and comfort of our users remain our top priority,” he added.
Yudistriawana revealed that the emergency alert at Terminal 2 occurred on Saturday afternoon due to the appearance of smoke within the terminal area. The incident was caused by smoke originating from an operational vehicle belonging to a ground handling company, which experienced a technical fault while in the baggage makeup area of Terminal 2D.
Airport operational staff and relevant units immediately implemented standard procedures. The Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) unit, along with technical and operational teams, moved to the location to secure the area, perform initial handling, and evacuate the malfunctioning vehicle to an open area to accelerate smoke dissipation.
“We acted swiftly to coordinate and manage the situation on the ground so that conditions could be controlled immediately. Within approximately 5 to 10 minutes of the report being received, the source of the disturbance was handled, and the affected area was normalised,” he explained.
Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is currently coordinating with the ground handling company to conduct a further evaluation of the vehicle that experienced the technical fault. “We are committed to ensuring all operational aspects run according to safety and security standards to provide the best service to all users,” he concluded.
