Smoke Appears at Istiqlal Mosque During First Tarawih Prayers of 2026, Fire Brigade Deployed
A smoke incident occurred at Istiqlal Mosque during the first tarawih prayers of Ramadan 2026. Fire brigade officers were deployed to the scene.
On Wednesday (18/2/2026) at 21:02 Western Indonesian Time (WIB), several fire brigade officers were observed in the grounds of Istiqlal Mosque. A number of fire engines were also dispatched to the location.
Officers remained on standby at the scene. It was reported that the response had entered the cooling phase.
βThe situation is in the cooling process,β said an officer from the Command Centre of the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat).
Fire brigade officers received reports of smoke at 20:13 WIB. A total of nine fire engines and 36 personnel were deployed to Istiqlal Mosque, located on Jalan Taman Wijaya Kusuma, Pasar Baru, Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta.
The response had been under way since 20:17 WIB. Initial information indicated that smoke had appeared in the CCTV room. Fire brigade officers were also extracting smoke from the room.
No further details regarding the origin of the smoke were available. The sequence of events also remained unclear.
Istiqlal Mosque was holding its first congregational tarawih prayers of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah on the day of the incident. The atmosphere of the tarawih prayers at Istiqlal Mosque remained calm and orderly whilst the smoke was being dealt with by the fire brigade.
