The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, has requested that the teacher suspected of committing harassment at State Vocational High School (SMK) Negeri 27 Jakarta no longer be permitted to serve as an educator.

“I have requested that the strictest possible sanctions be imposed, and that the individual concerned be given no further opportunity to be an educator,” Pramono stated at Jakarta City Hall, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (7/10).

Pramono noted that the harassment committed by this vocational school teacher has wounded the public trust placed in teachers as educators.

“Because what occurred at SMKN 27 truly damages the very dignity of the teaching profession,” he explained.

Consequently, Pramono emphasised that the alleged perpetrator must be processed and should not be given any further space as an educator by the Jakarta Education Office.

“Thus, the Jakarta Provincial Government fully supports the strictest possible actions and the steps taken by the Education Office to ensure there is no room for the individual concerned to serve as an educator in Jakarta,” he added.

According to reports, a dance teacher at a Jakarta vocational school, identified by the initials K, allegedly committed sexual harassment against a male student. The suspect, who has been a teacher at the school for over 17 years, is reported to have engaged in both physical and verbal harassment. In addition to the harassment, the teacher also reportedly used violence by pinching the student.

The Special Staff to the Governor of Jakarta for Public Communication, Chico Hakim, stated that an integrated team has been formed to conduct an investigation.

“The individual has been relieved of their duties at the school. Simultaneously, the Jakarta Education Office is forming an integrated team to conduct further examinations of the person concerned,” said Chico on Wednesday (7/10).

Chico emphasised that the Jakarta Provincial Government will not tolerate acts of harassment and violence, particularly within school environments.

“The Jakarta Provincial Government does not tolerate violence and harassment in any form, especially within the school environment,” he said.
