SMK PGRI 5 Denpasar's Reputation Tarnished by Students' Vulgar MPLS Twibbon

The name of SMK PGRI 5 Denpasar has come under scrutiny after a School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) twibbon featuring photos of several female students was heavily criticised on social media. The photos of the students were deemed too revealing, sparking discussion among netizens and prompting the school to conduct an internal investigation.

Head of SMK PGRI 5 Denpasar, Nuning Kurniawati, stated that the results of the internal investigation showed that several female students had been given guidance. They were also asked to replace the twibbon photos that had become the focus of attention. "Indeed, there were some students who questioned whether there were actually rules about this. They asked, ‘Is there really a rule if I don’t change it?’ So we will indeed be summoning them," Nuning said when met at SMK PGRI 5 Denpasar on Monday (13/7/2026).

Regarding the revealing attire, Nuning explained that the committee had previously provided examples for making the twibbon and self-introduction videos before the MPLS began. This included instructions for students to wear modest clothing, such as old school uniforms, kebaya, or other covered attire. She emphasised that the school never directed students to wear vulgar or revealing clothing. "I also explained this in front of the students this morning, as did our Daily Management Board. If by this afternoon the photos have not been replaced, we will evaluate again. If they still haven’t, we will issue a summons," she clarified.

Nuning revealed that there is still one female student who has not been successfully identified. The school is still ascertaining whether the individual in question is indeed a new student at SMK PGRI 5 Denpasar. The identification process has not been completed because the number of MPLS participants reaches hundreds. "She has locked her Instagram profile. We have traced it, and she also has a second account, which is also locked," she disclosed.

In addition to conducting the investigation, the school is also monitoring the students’ social media accounts. According to Nuning, social media ethics is one of the topics covered during the MPLS. "The hope is that this MPLS runs well, smoothly, and orderly, in accordance with what we desire," she concluded.
