Smiling Corn Farmers: Easy Access to Capital, Path to Food Self-Sufficiency Opens Wider
Bekasi, VIVA – Recognising that capital is often the main barrier to farmers’ growth, the Indonesian National Police (Polri) has taken a strategic step by facilitating financial access. In a simultaneous sowing event in Bekasi, the handover of Kredit Usaha Rakyat (KUR) facilities from Bank BRI to the mentored farmer groups was conducted. This financial support enables farmers to adopt more advanced agricultural technologies, purchase quality seeds, and sustain land operations. Strengthening capital at the grassroots level is viewed as the main engine to raise crop productivity evenly. The move is part of Polri’s efforts to build an autonomous food ecosystem. In addition to technical guidance and security, farmers’ economic aspects are also addressed to boost their competitiveness in facing food market dynamics. Deputy Chief of Police, Komjen Dedi Prasetyo, stated that in 2026 they would partner with Bank Himbara to provide KUR to farmer groups, thereby breaking the chain of middlemen and providing direct capital to farmers. The presence of inter-agency synergy demonstrates Polri’s commitment as a strategic government partner to ensure inclusive national development. “With strong capital through KUR, farmers now have a financial foundation to continue contributing to national food sovereignty,” he said.
