SMI CEO Reveals Challenges in Indonesia's Infrastructure Development
PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (Persero) (PT SMI) held the PT SMI 2026 symposium, which was accompanied by the awarding of the SMI Environmental and Social Safeguards (ESS) Awards at Ayana Mid Plaza on Wednesday (22/4/2026). The event was in commemoration of PT SMI’s 17th anniversary and served as a strategic moment to strengthen the direction of impactful, inclusive, and sustainable development. The symposium organised by PT SMI carried the theme “Accelerating Economic Growth through Infrastructure Development”. This forum brought together the government, academics, business actors, and development partners to formulate policy directions, strengthen cross-stakeholder synergies, and promote effective and sustainable infrastructure financing innovations. The symposium discussed two main subtopics, namely “Why Infrastructure Becomes the Key to Economic Growth?” and “Regional Infrastructure Financing in Supporting Equitable Economic Growth”. Several economic and development figures provided their insights, including Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, Darmin Nasution, Bambang Brodjonegoro, Didik J. Rachbini, Danang Parikesit, Suminto, Arief Anshory Yusuf, Raksaka Mahi, and the Director of Public Financing and Project Development at PT SMI, Faaris Pranawa. PT SMI’s President Director, Reynaldi Hermansjah, emphasised that future development challenges require a paradigm shift from mere financing to creating measurable impacts. “In the future, infrastructure development challenges will not only be about the scale of financing, but how the financing provided can create real economic, social, and environmental impacts.” PT SMI is committed to continuing to strengthen its role as a Development Finance Institution (DFI), namely becoming an enabler for a collaborative and sustainable development ecosystem. Over 17 years since its establishment, PT SMI has provided financing commitments of Rp275 trillion with an accumulated project value of Rp1,183 trillion. This support has impacted the absorption of 10.9 million workers and contributed 0.5% to the national GDP. With financing distributed across all regions of Indonesia, PT SMI believes that investment in quality infrastructure plays a crucial role in reducing regional disparities and improving economic efficiency. This is reinforced through research-based financing produced by the SMI Institute.
