SMBC Indonesia (BTPN) Sells Rp19.93 Trillion Pension Credit Business to BTN (BBTN)
PT Bank SMBC Indonesia Tbk (BTPN) has divested its pension credit business portfolio worth Rp19.93 trillion to PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BBTN). This move marks a significant shift in the bank’s business direction, previously known as Bank BTPN and long associated with pension financing. The transaction was announced via the company’s disclosure on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) website on Monday, 25 May 2026. The first agreement is a Conditional Portfolio Transfer Agreement (CPTA), transferring pension and pre-retirement loan portfolios managed by PT Taspen (Persero), valued at Rp12.58 trillion. The second transaction involves a Conditional Loan Asset Transfer Agreement (CLATA) for pension and pre-retirement loans managed by PT ASABRI (Persero), other pension funds, and active employee credits, valued at Rp7.34 trillion. The transaction value equates to 46.3% of the company’s equity based on audited financial statements as of 31 December 2025, classifying it as a material transaction under Financial Services Authority (OJK) regulations. Pension business has long been a key identifier for BTPN before its rebranding to SMBC Indonesia in 2024. In its disclosure document, the company acknowledged the pension business unit has long been a crucial part of its retail operations. SMBC Indonesia also stated the business has historically played a significant role in pension fund management and benefit payments in Indonesia. “This business unit has historically played a significant role in providing pension fund management and payment services to Indonesia’s broad retiree segment,” the company stated. In addition to managing pension payments, the unit also extends credit to retirees, pre-retirees, and active employees.
