SMBC and Pegadaian Agree to Open Access to Offshore Loans and Social Loans
JAKARTA - The SMBC Group, through PT Bank SMBC Indonesia Tbk, has entered into a collaboration with PT Pegadaian to provide various financing facilities. The partnership encompasses access to foreign funding, thematic financing based on social loans, and the development of products based on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.
This agreement is marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between SMBC Indonesia and Pegadaian. The signing took place in Tokyo at the end of March 2026 as part of the Indonesia-Japan Strategic Partnership Forum. The event was also presented in the presence of President Prabowo Subianto.
This collaboration forms part of the strengthening of Indonesia-Japan partnerships. This step is also related to the agenda of expanding financial access and strengthening the national financial industry ecosystem.
SMBC Indonesia’s President Director, Henoch Munandar, stated that this collaboration supports the national economic transformation.
“This partnership also serves as evidence of our commitment to supporting the national institution PT Pegadaian by leveraging the global network strength of the SMBC Group and the local strengths of SMBC Indonesia,” said Henoch in an official statement on Monday (13/4/2026).
This collaboration is also directed towards supporting the development of Pegadaian’s gold ecosystem, expanding financial inclusion, and creating long-term economic value.
SMBC Indonesia and Pegadaian will develop a sustainable financing framework. This scheme includes social loans for sectors with high social impact, as well as potential orange loans focused on women’s empowerment.
Henoch explained that this approach aims to ensure that financing delivers measurable social and environmental impacts in line with global standards.
“The support and trust from the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of Japan for this partnership are very meaningful. We hope that the synergy established with PT Pegadaian will become one of the further steps in SMBC Indonesia’s active role as a strategic partner in building a more sustainable and meaningful national financial inclusion future,” concluded Henoch.
