Smartphones Set to Become Obsolete, Experts Reveal Replacements Are Already Emerging
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Handphones (HP) now seem to be an essential item inseparable from our daily lives. However, experts predict that this era will soon come to an end. Their replacement is a new, more advanced technology.
The smartphone industry itself is now showing signs of saturation. Sales have been steadily declining in recent years, indicating that a major change is looming in the device market.
“People are still buying smartphones; I’m not saying that suddenly no one will use phones, but the numbers are decreasing,” said Amy Webb, CEO of Future Today Institute.
She has been predicting this since 2017. At that time, she stated that the beginning of the end for smartphones had started.
In her latest article, Webb states that if we think about the next decade, instead of just using phones, there will be many other devices that will be used more frequently. According to her, these devices will replace smartphones.
“The era of humans permanently bending over a rectangle, the days when faces are illuminated by blue light from screens, the times when two thumbs move at the speed of light over protective plastic, are over,” she said.
Several gadgets could serve as alternatives to the usage they have provided. The AI Pin, for example, is a small square-shaped electronic medallion that is pinned to clothing.
It can receive voice commands to ask for weather forecasts, whether there are restaurants nearby, or any question that users would ask Google. It responds with audio thanks to artificial intelligence.
This technology can be projected onto the user’s hand, allowing small text to be read.
The list of gadgets that seem to come straight from an Isaac Asimov novel continues to grow. Apple’s latest major launch, for instance, is the Vision Pro glasses, which allow users to see their surroundings through images captured by high-resolution cameras.
These glasses combine visual perception with video playback and other content. It’s as if the user is in a giant personal cinema with a window to the world.
Meta now also has smart glasses in a simpler form. Previously, the Meta-Rayban glasses were only equipped with a camera, but now the device also has a “screen” on its lenses.
In the end, smartphones remain a gadget. They are filled with applications like Google, WhatsApp, Gmail, Netflix, or Spotify.
And in the future, that box can be used to “carry” all those tools and use them anywhere.
