Payday, which has long been synonymous with a surge in consumption, is undergoing a shift. Society is now tending towards being more selective and planned in shopping, in line with the emergence of the smart shopper trend among digital consumers.

This change is marked by increasing awareness in prioritising needs, while strategically utilising various offers. Instead of impulsive shopping, consumers now tend to wait for certain moments to get the best value from each transaction.

Blibli’s Head of Campaign, Indra Perdana, assesses that this trend reflects a change in customers’ mindset that is increasingly rational in managing finances.

He explained that consumers today not only consider price, but also long-term benefits and security in transacting.

“Customers are now increasingly selective and planned in shopping, especially during payday. They want to still meet needs and lifestyle without sacrificing financial condition,” said Indra.

Along with this change, payday is now viewed as the right time to meet needs in a more measured way. Consumers tend to arrange priorities, from primary needs to lifestyle supporters such as digital devices, personal care products, to activity equipment.

E-commerce platforms are also adjusting strategies by presenting thematic campaigns that not only offer promotions, but also provide ease and a sense of security in shopping.

One of them is through the Blibli Pay Day programme held on 25–27 April 2026. This campaign offers various incentives, from discounts, free shipping, to guarantees of product authenticity and flexibility in returns.

Observers assess that the smart shopper trend is a positive signal for household financial management, especially amid economic dynamics that demand society be more adaptive.

With this approach, consumers can still meet needs while maintaining financial stability. Shopping patterns are also shifting from merely consumptive to more planned and value-based.
