Smart #2 to launch in China with a range of 410 km
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Smart is set to officially launch its latest compact electric car, the Smart #2, in China on 5 November 2026. It has a range of up to 410 kilometres under the CLTC test standard, powered by a 35.8 kWh battery and a rear-wheel-drive electric motor.
According to CarNewsChina on Friday, the Smart #2 follows the tradition of the two-seat urban Smart ForTwo, with compact dimensions designed to tackle limited road and parking space in cities.
The new model was developed through a collaboration between Smart, a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and Geely. Mercedes-Benz’s global design team handled the vehicle’s styling, while Geely supported its development and production in China.
The car is powered by a 35.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery supplied by CATL. It also supports DC fast charging of up to 65 kW, allowing the battery to be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in about 20 minutes.
The stated range of 410 kilometres is based on China’s CLTC standard. As it uses a specific testing method, the result does not necessarily reflect the distance the car can travel in everyday driving conditions.
The Smart #2 is about 2.75 metres long, 1.67 metres wide and 1.56 metres high, with a wheelbase of 1,875 mm. These dimensions retain the compact character associated with the ForTwo.
For handling, the car uses MacPherson front suspension and an independent five-link rear suspension. Its minimum turning radius of 3.35 metres is also designed to aid manoeuvring in confined spaces.
The November launch will mark the next stage of the Smart #2’s marketing in China. The model was previously unveiled globally at the Paris Motor Show in October 2026, marking Smart’s return to the two-seat urban electric car segment.
