SMAN 2 Katingan Kuala Wins Central Kalimantan MPR Four Pillars Quiz Championship
SMA Negeri 2 Katingan Kuala has won first place in the 2026 People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) Four Pillars Quiz Competition at the Central Kalimantan (Kalteng) provincial level. The victory means the school from Katingan Regency will represent Central Kalimantan at the national finals to be held in Jakarta.
In the competition, which took place at the Kalawa Convention Hall in Palangka Raya, SMAN 2 Katingan Kuala recorded the highest score in the final round, beating MAN Barito Utara in second place and SMAN 1 Pangkalan Bun in third.
The success marks another proud achievement, given that the school was also provincial champion in the same competition the previous year, though it was eliminated in the preliminary round of the national finals in Jakarta.
Acting Secretary-General of the MPR RI, Siti Fauziah, commended SMAN 2 Katingan Kuala’s achievement. She reminded the winners not to become complacent and to prepare more thoroughly for the national competition.
“In Jakarta, they will face champions from 37 other provinces. Therefore, they must study even harder,” Siti said in a statement on Sunday (14/6/2026). “Being the best in the province is a great achievement, but there are still many top participants from other provinces who will also compete.”
Beyond stressing the importance of academic preparation, Siti also delivered a national message to all participants. She emphasised that the Four Pillars Quiz is not merely a contest to find winners, but a means of instilling the values of patriotism, nationalism, mutual cooperation, discipline, honesty, sportsmanship, and love for the homeland.
According to Siti, these values are crucial for the younger generation who will one day become the nation’s leaders on the path towards Golden Indonesia 2045. “The MPR RI wants to instil strong character in the younger generation. In 15 to 20 years, they will be the ones leading Indonesia. Therefore, they must have a solid national foundation,” she said.
Siti also highlighted the importance of protecting young people from negative influences entering through the development of information technology and digital media. She argued that national consciousness must be continuously strengthened so that the nation’s noble values are preserved amid the swift currents of globalisation.
Meanwhile, SMAN 2 Katingan Kuala’s accompanying teacher, Indah Fitriani, expressed pride in her students’ success in defending their title. The previous year, the school also became provincial champion and advanced to the national finals, though they were stopped in the preliminary round.
According to Indah, the school’s main evaluation focus was not on academic aspects but on building the students’ self-confidence. “In terms of knowledge, the children’s abilities are excellent. Our challenge is precisely to boost their confidence so they can unleash their full potential during the competition,” she said.
Indah hopes the opportunity to perform in Jakarta can be a momentum for the school, located in a remote area, to bring honour to both the school and the province at the national level.
The Central Kalimantan provincial-level MPR RI Four Pillars Quiz was attended by nine high schools and equivalent institutions. To secure the provincial champion title, participants had to go through two preliminary rounds and one final round, with competition material covering Four Pillars Insight, Thematic Four Pillars, and a buzzer round.
The event, a collaboration between the MPR RI Secretariat-General and the Central Kalimantan Secondary Education Supervisory Coordinator, serves as one of the instruments for socialising the MPR RI’s Four Pillars: Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika.
The competition was also witnessed by representatives of the Head of the Central Kalimantan Provincial Education Office and the Central Kalimantan Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) Office. The panel of judges overseeing the competition comprised highly competent figures: Central Kalimantan Secondary Education Supervisory Coordinator Dr Rusnanie, Expert Madya School Supervisor Dr Rudi Hasan, and Dr Ady Ferdian Noor, a lecturer in the Teacher Professional Education programme at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Muhammadiyah Palangka Raya.
