SMAN 1 Pontianak Rejects Rematch in MPR Quiz Competition
State Senior High School 1 or SMAN 1 Pontianak has rejected participating in the final of the MPR’s Four Pillars Quiz Competition (LLC) at the West Kalimantan provincial level, which was declared to be replayed due to controversy.
Through a post on the Instagram account @smansaptk.informasi, SMAN 1 Pontianak Principal Indang Maryati stated that they respect and support the LLC result designating SMAN 1 Sambas as West Kalimantan’s representative in the national-level LLC.
“SMAN 1 Pontianak states that it will not participate in the replayed LLC, as announced by the MPR,” reads the statement from SMAN 1 Pontianak, signed by Indang Maryati, quoted by Tempo on Thursday, 14 May 2026.
Indang continued that SMAN 1 Pontianak also conveys apologies for the disturbance that occurred and invites all parties to resolve this issue in a spirit of togetherness, mutual respect, and upholding the values of unity.
She stated that SMAN 1 Pontianak never intended from the outset to annul the competition results, but solely to obtain clarity through clarification of the disputed points.
What SMAN 1 Pontianak did, Indang explained, was a step taken as part of efforts to obtain confirmation and clarification for the realisation of a transparent, objective, and accountable competition implementation and mechanism.
Indang emphasised that her school never aimed to attack or undermine the credibility of the institution, organisers, or specific individuals in this LLC competition.
Therefore, she requests that all parties ensure a conducive, safe, and comfortable educational climate is created moving forward.
“SMAN 1 Pontianak conveys appreciation and thanks for the attention, support, and concern from various parties in responding to this situation,” said Indang.
Previously, MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani stated that his institution would replay the Four Pillars LLC final in West Kalimantan. “The judges who will adjudicate in that LLC will be independent judges,” said Muzani at Nusantara III Building, Jakarta, on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the MPR LLC in West Kalimantan sparked controversy when the judging panel did not provide fair assessment to two participating teams in the final match on 9 May.
The incident began when three finalists, namely SMAN 1 Pontianak, SMAN 1 Sambas, and SMAN 1 Sanggau, competed to answer the question: “In selecting BPK members, the DPR is obliged to consider input from which institution?”
Team C from SMAN 1 Pontianak answered first, stating that BPK members are selected by the DPR considering DPD’s input and formalised by the President.
The judging panel deemed that answer insufficiently precise and awarded minus 5 points.
The same question was then re-posed to the forum, and Team B, namely SMAN 1 Sambas, took the opportunity by answering that BPK members are selected by the DPR considering DPD’s input and formalised by the President.
The judging panel decided that answer was correct and awarded SMAN 1 Sambas 10 points. This was then protested by participants from SMAN 1 Pontianak, who had given the same answer first.
However, the judging panel reasoned that SMAN 1 Pontianak did not mention the words “DPD’s consideration.” That reason was refuted by Team C participants.
One of the judging panel members, Indri Wahyuni, highlighted the importance of accuracy in participants’ articulation when delivering answers. Indri Wahyuni serves as Head of the Secretariat of the MPR’s Socialisation Body.
“Articulation is important. The judging panel assesses based on what is clearly heard. If it is not heard clearly, the judges have the right to deduct points,” said Indri.
