SMAN 1 Manokwari emerged as the first-place winner of the MPR RI Four Pillars Quiz Competition at the West Papua provincial level, scoring 125 points. They defeated SMAN Taruna Kasuari Nusantara Papua Barat, which came second with 120 points, and SMAN 2 Manokwari, which placed third with 100 points. The competition took place in the Ballroom of Aston Niu Manokwari, Manokwari Regency, on Saturday (11/7/2026), and was attended by nine of the best senior high schools, vocational schools, and Islamic senior high schools from various regencies in West Papua.

This victory sends SMAN 1 Manokwari as West Papua Province’s representative to the Grand Final of the 2026 MPR RI Four Pillars Quiz Competition, scheduled to be held in Jakarta in August 2026.

The atmosphere in the Aston Niu Manokwari Ballroom fell silent after the second preliminary round concluded. A student from SMAN 1 Bintuni, Aurelia, bowed her head, holding back emotion after her team failed to advance to the final round. In the second preliminary round, SMAN 1 Bintuni had to concede a narrow lead to SMAN 2 Manokwari, which secured a place in the final based on the accumulated scores from three competition sessions: Four Pillars Insight, Thematic, and Quick Answer.

“We had promised our teachers and friends that we would become provincial champions. However, today we have not yet succeeded in realising that,” said Aurelia, a student from SMAN 1 Bintuni, in a written statement on Monday (13/7/2026).

The emotional scene quickly transformed into a display of sportsmanship as participants from other schools approached and offered encouragement to the SMAN 1 Bintuni team. The moment reflected that the competition is not only about achieving victory but also about building brotherhood and national character.

The final round was no less intense. The three best schools—SMAN 1 Manokwari, SMAN Taruna Kasuari Nusantara Papua Barat, and SMAN 2 Manokwari—took turns leading the score tally until the last question was read.

A member of the SMAN 1 Manokwari team, I Putu Ayu Puja Prameswari, expressed gratitude for the result achieved after a difficult preparation process. “We are very grateful for the opportunity to represent West Papua at the national level. Our preparation was not easy; a team member even fell ill. We will continue to study and address our shortcomings to deliver the best results in Jakarta,” she said.

The Head of SMAN 1 Manokwari, Lucinda Patricia Mandobar, conveyed her appreciation to all parties who provided support to the school team. According to her, the success was the result of the hard work of the students, supervising teachers, and the support of parents and the entire school community.

On the same occasion, the committee also awarded Best Yell to teams in each preliminary round: SMAN 1 Prafi in Preliminary Round I, SMAN 1 Bintuni in Preliminary Round II, and SMAN 1 Manokwari in Preliminary Round III.

The Head of the Bureau for Session and Constitutional Socialisation of the MPR RI Secretariat General, Wachid Nugroho, officially opened the West Papua provincial level competition. He emphasised that the competition is not only a forum to test participants’ academic abilities but also a means to shape the national character of the younger generation. He explained that through the MPR RI Four Pillars Quiz, students are encouraged to understand and internalise the values of Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika in their daily lives.

He noted that the series of the 2026 MPR RI Four Pillars Quiz Competition began on 31 March 2026 and is being held in stages across all 38 provinces in Indonesia. The provincial champions will subsequently meet at the National Level Grand Final scheduled for August 2026 in Jakarta.

Echoing this sentiment, the Head of the West Papua Provincial Education Office, Barnabas Dowansiba, assessed that the MPR RI Four Pillars Quiz is a strategic vehicle for instilling national values in the younger generation. He stated that while victory is the goal of every participant, what is more important is the growth of a young generation with integrity, who uphold unity, respect diversity, and possess a strong commitment to the life of the nation and state.

Through the organisation of the MPR RI Four Pillars Quiz, the MPR RI continues its efforts to strengthen the younger generation’s understanding of national values while preparing future national leaders who possess character, constitutional insight, and a spirit of unity within the framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
