Of the total 4.4 million small and medium industry (IKM) business units, approximately 40 percent, or 1.6 million, operate in the food and beverage sector. The Directorate General of Small, Medium, and Miscellaneous Industries (IKMA) at the Ministry of Industry is undertaking various efforts to support them, including guidance, mentoring, and facilitating HACCP certification to ensure products meet international food safety standards.

Other initiatives include facilitating IKM in the food and beverage sector to participate in business matching, connecting them with aggregators, large industries, and modern retail to open broader supply chain pathways. The ministry is also facilitating export access through technical and business mentoring.

IKMA Director General Reni Yanita stated this during a meeting with food and beverage industry players, including IKM participants of KristaInterFood in Tangerang on Wednesday. The exhibition series, which also features various competitions for food and beverage professionals, will be held in Tangerang from 4 to 7 November 2026. Reni said the exhibition activities represent a form of business matching that will connect them with the food and beverage industry ecosystem.

"This is our effort to support the IKM sector to be competitive, improve performance, and contribute to GDP," Reni said.

Krista Exhibitions CEO Daud Dharma Salim, the exhibition organiser, said the target is 1,500 participants from Indonesia and 25 other countries. "Of that number, 10 percent are MSMEs from various regions in Indonesia. So there are around 150 MSMEs from the coffee, tea, cocoa, chocolate, processed food, and seaweed sectors," Daud said.

Various competitions will also be held, including the La Cuisine Cooking Competition 2026, which is targeted to attract around 1,000 chefs from home and abroad. Other events include the Indonesia Coffee Art Battle, industry training, and competency certification programmes for food and beverage business players.
