SMA Kemala Taruna Bhayangkara (KTB) held an Expert Forum themed around the environment, featuring an activist from the Save Soil movement. This activity forms part of the school’s efforts to encourage student awareness of global issues, particularly soil conservation.

The event took place at the Global Darussalam Academy (GDA) campus in Pakem, Sleman, on Tuesday morning (14/4). On this occasion, German activist campaigning for Save Soil, Konstantin Zulske, was present. The activity is hoped to serve as a practical platform for shaping students and the community to care about crucial issues, especially those related to the environment.

Director of Kebhayangkaraan at SMA Kemala Taruna Bhayangkara, Brigjen Pol. M. Arif Sugiarto, stated that this event aligns with the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum implemented by the school.

“The aim is that, since we use the IB curriculum, SMA KTB and GDA seek international mindedness. So, how we think globally and internationally,” said Arif when met at the location on Tuesday (14/4/2026).

He hopes this activity can be utilised to cultivate student concern for the increasingly critical soil condition.

“So that the students here are not only intelligent, but also caring towards the environment. Earlier, we saw the critical condition of soil worldwide, including in Indonesia, and how to maintain it. Because if the soil is destroyed, it affects everything, food and the economy,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the Principal of SMA Kemala Taruna Bhayangkara, Hendri Adi, mentioned that the series of activities in this forum are not just discussions, but also real actions in the school environment.

“Today’s agenda includes a morning bike ride with Konstantin, along with our dormitory heads and student representatives. Then we invited Konstantin to dialogue, to inspire our students about the movement he leads, namely Save Soil,” he said.

In addition, the school also inaugurated Taman Kemala as a form of commitment to greening. He added that planting 11 trees was done as a symbol of support for the Save Soil movement as well as to beautify the school environment.

“Then after this, we are inaugurating a plot of land dedicated to greening at this school. We named it Taman Kemala. So, Kemala comes from our school’s name, Kemala Bhayangkara,” he continued.

“Hopefully, this becomes one of the supporters of the Save Soil movement earlier, and of course for greening the school and surrounding environment,” he stated.

Founder of Global Darussalam Academy, Muhammad Romahurmuziy, highlighted that amid increasing threats of land use conversion. Therefore, this activity is hoped to serve as a campaign platform for the community on the importance of the Save Soil movement.

“Yes, this agenda aims to invite and campaign to Indonesian society and the world to participate in the Save Soil movement. This is not just a movement, but our concern for the future of humanity,” he said.

He revealed that every year there is significant conversion of rice fields, potentially disrupting national food security. According to him, concrete steps such as tree planting and early education are important to maintain environmental sustainability.

“Because every year in Indonesia, the rate of conversion of agricultural rice field land to non-agricultural rice field land occurs at around 90,000 to 120,000 hectares per year,” he explained.
